👨‍🏫 Lecturers: Benedetto Lepori, a titular professor at Università della Svizzera italiana and director of the European Higher Education Sector Observatory with expertise in higher education governance and research policy, and Andrea Rocci, a full professor and director of the Institute of Argumentation, Linguistics and Semiotics, Università della Svizzera italiana, specialising in argumentation and communication.

➡️ Master the art of persuasive scientific writing:
🎯 Understand how to forge robust arguments to convince reviewers of your work's novelty and strength.
🗣️ Learn effective strategies for engaging in (critical) discussions with reviewers and responding to their comments.
🔬 Gain insights into science as a community of practice and the central role of writing in knowledge development.
📝 Analyse the literary conventions of scientific texts and how they are constructed to persuade.
🧠 Explore theories of human communication and strategic manoeuvring to bring your audience (especially reviewers!) to your side.
🛡️ Understand how to avoid common pitfalls that can lead to rejection.
💰 Extend your skills to crafting compelling arguments in grant proposals.

This in-person workshop combines engaging lectures with practical exercises, including argumentative analysis of scientific papers and argumentation pitches on your own research.

📚 Key topics include: The role of writing in science, analysing arguments in papers, navigating the publishing process and reviewer feedback, crafting arguments from a production perspective, and argumentation in grant proposal writing.

⚠️ Prerequisites: None, but PhD students already writing scientific papers will gain the most benefit.

Invest in your publishing success and enhance your academic career! Learn the vital skills that participants consistently wish they had acquired earlier in their PhD journey.
