	Academic Job Search: An Experience Report

In February 2019, the Software Institute started its SI Seminar Series. Every Thursday afternoon, a researcher of the Institute will publicly give a short talk on a software engineering argument of their choice. Examples include, but are not limited to novel interesting papers, seminal papers, personal research overview, discussion of preliminary research ideas, tutorials, and small experiments.

Abstract: In this talk, I will talk about my experience of academic job search during the last year. More specifically, this talk will cover the resources used for finding open positions, the application package preparation, the interview process, and the lessons I learned which might be useful for others who also plan to find a job in academia. As personal experience can be biased, I would also like to encourage seminar attendees to share their own experience.

Biography: Bin Lin is a postdoctoral researcher in the Software Institute. He received his Ph.D. from the same university under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Gabriele Bavota and Prof. Dr. Michele Lanza. Prior to that, he obtained his Master’s degree from Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands and his Bachelor’s degree from South China University of Technology, China. His research interests include refactoring, program comprehension, mining software repositories, opinion mining, and human aspects of software engineering.
