Abstract: Data sonification, a young and evolving field closely aligned with data visualization, is the use of sound to communicate non-linguistic information. In this seminar, I will explore the historical applications of sound in conveying information and, more importantly, delve into the perceptual and conceptual dimensions of sonification and their relevance to software comprehension activities. The talk will encompass a comprehensive review of the existing literature in the sonification domain.

Biography: Carmen Armenti is a Ph.D. student in the REVEAL (Reverse Engineering, Visualization, Evolution Analysis Lab) research group at the Software Institute, USI, Lugano, supervised by Prof. Dr. Michele Lanza. In October 2022, Carmen received her double Master’s degree in Software Systems Security from Università degli Studi del Molise, Italy, and Software and Data Engineering from Università della Svizzera italiana, Switzerland. Her current research focuses on enhancing software comprehension by integrating aural representation with visualization techniques.
