The SNSF allows CH researchers to collaborate with researchers from other countries by designating them "project partners", whether or not the SNSF has signed an agreement with the countries in question. The SNSF will mainly finance the travel costs of the project partners for the collaboration.
The Lead Agency process is aimed at researchers in CH who wish to conduct a cross-border research project with some Eu (e.g AUS, B, FR, DE, LUX, POL,...) and recently also non-Eu countries (São Paulo and South Africa). In most partner countries, the success rates are lower than the SNSF rates.
Weave is a multilateral agreement, which enables collaborative projects under the same framework conditions with all participating countries and simplifies the submission of joint applications by centralising evaluation at a single agency. This scheme enables trilateral projects.
This scheme is used to promote and facilitate international collaboration with DNK, NOR, SWE, NLD and UK (limited to the humanities and social sciences projects). The scheme is aimed at researchers in CH whose project includes subproject abroad (the SNSF evaluates and finances both).
