	SNSF & ERC - Opportunities and flexibility measures for parents

	SNSF - Gender Equality grant

The grant is aimed at young women researchers funded by the SNSF. It offers them additional individualised and flexible support for their career development. An eligible person receives CHF 1000 per 12 months' approved project running time.

Requirements

•Work-time of at least 60% funded by the SNSF. PhD students may be awarded irrespective of their work-time percentage. •Women at doctoral or postdoctoral level employed in SNSF-funded projects, career funding schemes or are beneficiaries of career funding schemes (Except for Eccellenza).

	SNSF - Flexibility grant

This grant offers researchers 2 options to balance their professional and private lives: 1) provide funding to help cover the external child care costs charged to the researcher. 2) help finance the salary of a support person, allowing the grantee to reduce his/her work quota.

	SNSF- Extended eligibility

For any SNSF scheme that has a time-limited eligibility period, such as Ambizione, PRIMA, Eccellenza and postdoc.mobility schemes: - Maternity: extension of 18 months per child for the eligibility period. - Paternity: extension by the documented time of paternity leave

	ERC - Extension of eligibility periods

For maternity & paternity leaves, the eligibility windows can be extended. Maternity: 18 months extension for each child born before or after the PhD award. Paternity: extension by the documented time of paternity leave taken until the call deadline for each child born before or after the PhD award.

COVID-19-related research gaps

Applicants will be able to declare delays in scientific productivity related to COVID-19, e.g difficulty in accessing research facilities, burdens caused by teaching or home-schooling children. Such declarations will inform the evaluation process but no extension of eligibility window are foreseen.

Tuesday 18.05	The EPFL Research Office organizes a Webinar "Balance research and childcare: funding and opportunities" to be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 from 12:00 – 13:15 via Zoom. The aim is to inform researchers about funding, opportunities and flexibility measures available to researchers who have children or are planning to become parents.
