On behalf of the federal government, the SNSF has launched the SNSF Advanced Grants 2023 call, replacing the ERC Advanced Grants.
SNSF Advanced Grants are aimed at established researchers with an outstanding track-record over the last 10 years. It is open to researchers of any nationality from any discipline and topic. Advanced grants fund bottom-up, high-risk/high-gain projects conducted in Switzerland.
Deadline: 31st of January 2024.Applicants need to pre-register in mySNF by the 15th of December, completing some preliminary admin data (host institution, project title, disciplines, preliminary summary, keywords). Earliest project start: 01.01.2025
SNSF AdGs award a maximum of CHF 1.9M per grant for up to 5 years, covering salaries and research costs, with additional funds of up to CHF 870'000 to cover the installation costs for an applicant moving to Switzerland, purchase of major equipment or other major experimental and field work costs.
Applicants whose project was rejected in the first or second stage of the evaluation for SNSF Advanced Grants 2022 can submit an application for the SNSF Advanced Grants 2023 call. The new proposals will not be treated as resubmissions but as new applications.
A researcher participating as principal investigator in an ongoing ERC grant cannot submit a proposal to the SNSF Advanced Grants 2023 call, unless the ongoing ERC project ends before the end of December 2025. An SNSF Advanced Grant can only start once the previous ERC project has ended.
The scientific quality of the applicant and the research project are the only evaluation criteria.The evaluation by international discipline-specific panels will be a one-step procedure. The interview is no longer included. Applicants will have the possibility to write rebuttal letters instead.
