NRPs fund research projects that contribute to address societal challenges. The Federal Council decides on the thematic focus and budget allocation of new NRPs, each lasting 2-5 years, and tasks the SNSF to manage the calls. So far, 80 NRPs have been launched; 4 new ones are on their way.
NRP projects are practice-oriented. They focus on developing solutions for the issues defined in the calls for proposals. In this view, cooperation and the exchange of knowledge with practitioners are of great importance.
Typically, NRPs fund 20-30 projects with CHF 250-700K for 4 years. The success rate at pre-proposal is 20-30%. Researchers with min. 4 years’ experience after PhD (or independent position) + min. 50% employment rate at a CH research institute can apply. SNSF-funded personnel and Ambizione cannot.
For research projects developing strategies, best practices and techniques to improve the quality of built and unbuilt spaces over the long term and for society at large. All projects must include a module to implement research findings e.g. via living labs, demonstrators.
Aims at analyzing how biodiversity and ecosystem services are managed and used in CH, and at assessing the impact of Swiss consumption and production abroad. Researchers must apply with at least one societal actor from a non-commercial institution. Commercial institutions only as project partners.
This NRP is intended to create a knowledge base for the inclusion of sex and gender aspects in medical research, medicine and healthcare in Switzerland. The findings from this NRP will be reflected in guidelines for stakeholders such as physicians or nursing staff.
This NRP is intended to link innovations in plant breeding with socioeconomic and policy developments. Research will also provide a scientific basis for the further development of new socially and economically viable breeding methods.
