SWEET (SWiss Energy research for the Energy Transition) is a funding programme of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE). SWEET targets solution-oriented research and innovation activities that are key to implementing Switzerland’s Energy Strategy 2050 and achieving its climate goals.
Through thematic calls, SWEET funds inter-/transdisciplinary approaches to energy research that result from close collaborations between the SSH and the natural sciences and engineering. Consortia must reflect the diversity of Switzerland’s research and innovation community.
The call aims at identifying how hard-to-avoid emissions can be reduced with different measures and how to establish an infrastructure for the capture, utilisation, transport and storage of carbon. One consortium will be supported with at most CHF 18.4 Mio. to tackle the challenges for 6-8 years.
The consortium must be led by a Swiss institution of higher education and must involve at least 5 different institutions:• 1 ETH Domain • 1 Swiss university of applied sciences• 2 implementation partners from the Swiss industry and/or private sector • other research or implementation partner
Consortia of max. 10 members can request max. CHF 18.4M for 6-8 years for personnel, equipment, subcontracting and other project-related costs (excluding overheads and amin costs). Larger consortia will be penalized by receiving less funds. Each member must commit own and/or third-party funds.
• Deadline for notification of intent: 8 May 2024.• Deadline for pre-proposals: 3 July 2024.• Decision on pre-proposals: October 2024.• Deadline for full proposals: February 2025.• Funding decision: April 2025.
Have a look at granted projects. USI researchers are involved in reFuel.ch (Sustainable Fuels and Platform Chemicals) and SURE (SUstainable and Resilient Energy for Switzerland).
Institutional support and any required matching funds and infrastructure is decided by the USI Rectorate. Please submit as soon as possible a brief description of the project, consortium, budget and the support requested from USI to servizio.ricerca@usi.ch.
