Fondo Istituzionale per la Ricerca (FIR) supports structuring and strategic research activities at USI (excluding affiliated institutes) via calls for:1. Young researchers on a path towards independence, 2. Doctoral schools,3. Interdisciplinary projects with particular focus on sustainability.
The call awards grants of max. CHF 120K for 24 months to early-stage postdoctoral researchers to support them on their path towards scientific independence. Applicants must join a letter of support from a USI professor, confirming their willingness to host them for the duration of the grant.
• Applicants must have min. 2 years of research after their PhD.• Applications must be submitted within 8 years after obtainment of the PhD defense date. • Both internal and external researchers are eligible to apply.
• Applicants with a professorship title are not eligible.• The grant can cover up to 50% of the PI’s salary.• USI-affiliated entities cannot serve as hosts.
The call awards grants of max. CHF 100K for 36 months to USI institutes and faculties to further develop the skills of their doctoral students by further strengthening their doctoral training via, for instance, doctoral courses and networking events.
• Applicant(s) must be eligible to supervise PhD students.• Preference will be given to applications involving other universities.
• Coordination costs must be borne by the institute managing the doctoral school.• Participation of non-USI doctoral students is possible, but at their own expense.• USI-affiliated entities are not eligible.
The call awards seed money of max. CHF 100K for 12 months to support the development of innovative and interdisciplinary research projects, with a special focus on sustainability, to initiate new research lines that could receive external funding.
• Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria of the SNSF Project Funding and whose employment at USI is guaranteed for the duration of the project. • USI-affiliated entities are NOT eligible.
• Substantial co-funding is expected from the hosting institute/faculty from the corporate budget or third-party funds.• USI-affiliated entities are not eligible.
