Please find below a collection of funding instruments that support international research projects. Contact the Research Service for assistance throughout the application process.

ERC Synergy Grants

For interdisciplinary projects in any discipline. This highly competitive program supports, with EUR 10M for 6 years, ground-breaking research proposed by teams of 2-4 investigators with complementary backgrounds to tackle ambitious problems that could not be addressed by the individual researchers.

Deadline: 1 October 2024 at 17:00

SNSF Project Funding

Did you know that 118 out of 379 Project Funding approved in 2024 had an applicant or a project partner abroad? Contact the Research Service to learn more about the Weave, Lead Agency or International Co-Investigator Schemes and how to involve other countries in your project team.

Deadline: 5 November 2024 at 17:00

SNSF Spirit

With SPIRIT, the SNSF funds collaborations with researchers based in a country receiving development assistance with max. CHF 500K for 4 years. At least 30% of the budget must be allocated to the partner country/countries.

To be launched in late 2024 / early 2025

SNSF Bilateral Programmes

For joint research projects with non-European countries that show high or promising research potential. Stay tuned for new calls with Korea (on quantum at the end of 2024, early 2025), Japan (thematically open call in 2025) and India (call foreseen with the Department of Biotechnology and ICMR).

Deadline: Brazil (30 September 2024), Korea and UK (planned)

Innosuisse Bilateral Programmes

For joint proposals with non-European countries, leading to R&D of ready-to-market innovative products and applications with a strong market potential in CH and the partner country. Check out the call with Brazil (deadline 30.09.2024, to be renewed in 2025). Stay tuned for calls with Korea and UK.

Belmont Forum: Africa Regional call

For international and transdisciplinary research teams led by African scientists and stakeholders, tackling the following issues: water, energy, food and health nexus; pollution; disaster preparedness, responsiveness and recovery.
