The SNSF has released guidelines for project extension due to parenthood. This applies to SNSF-funded personnel and grantees of SNSF career grants. Local regulations of the employing institution apply. If the institution foresees additional benefits, the SNSF will cover these additional costs.
SNSF grantees and employees benefit from 4-month maternity/1-month parental leave. Further leave (not paid by the employer) is covered by the SNSF for up to 1 year. Grantees with child duties can ask for no-cost extension for min. 2-month uninterrupted leave.
While abroad, Postdoc.Mobility grantees have the following benefits:- Additional funding of max. 4 months (equivalent to the monthly amount of the grant) in case of unpaid maternity leave, if the child is born within 9 months after the end of the fellowship.- 1000 CHF/month child allowance
For SNSF-funded postdocs and PhD students with childcare duties. Flexibility Grants cover childcare costs and/or a support person's salary, usually for 2 years. This allows reducing work quota to 60%. Postdoc.Mobility return grant holders and PhD students can apply only for childcare cost coverage.
