For researchers who have a PhD and want to acquire more in-depth knowledge and increase their scientific independence with a research stay abroad at a university or research institution.Fellowship holders can apply for a return grant to finance their salary back in Switzerland for 3-12 months.
You can apply as early as 9 months prior the PhD/MD defense and up until 3 years after your PhD/MD defense.Non-Swiss applicants must have worked at a research institution in CH for at least 2 years and have a valid residence permit.
Applicants, who have identified a professor who is willing to host them and their project at USI, must send the “Support letter from the mentor” to servizio.ricerca@usi.ch by 15.01.2025 to obtain the “Support letter from the host institution” required by the SNSF.
The grant covers:• Living cost according to the host country’s costs of living;• Travel costs according to SNSF flat rates (also of the accompanying partner and children if they stay abroad for min. 6 months);• Max. CHF 5’000/year of project and conference costs.
The return grant covers:• The salary and social security contributions of the grantee for a period of 3-12 months;• Max. CHF 5’000 / year of research and conference costs.In the return phase, grantees can request Flexibility Grants.
The call is now open and will close on 3 Feb. 2025 at 17:00.Phase abroad:- Final decisions: mid-June 2025.- Projects start: between 1 Aug. 2025 and 1 July 2026.Return phase:- Project start: 6 - 12 months after the call deadline on the 1st day of the month immediately after the abroad phase.
