From 1 January 2025, the SNSF will introduce a small practical change in the way it pays Article Processing Charges (APC). APCs will be paid directly to the publishers via the platform ChronosHub. The SNSF will no longer reimburse already paid invoices.
The funding instrument remains unchanged: the SNSF covers the cost of APCs related to publications in purely Gold Open Access journals resulting from SNSF projects. Funding can be requested even after the project has ended. Financing is available to both SNSF grantees and their project staff.
Funding requests can easily be made through the Chronoshub platform, which provides a step-by-step submission widget. You need to include the accepted manuscript, the unpaid invoice, as well as some administrative data. The payment is then directly settled to the publisher via the platform.
• At least an SNSF grantee or SNSF project staff must be mentioned as author in the article.• The funding provided by the SNSF must be acknowledged in the article.• OA-articles that appear in special issues are no longer funded by the SNSF.• No funding for publications in hybrid OA journals.
APCs of publications in high-quality purely Gold OA journals that are not related to an SNSF project can be covered by the USI OA Fund. Funding is provided only for corresponding authors whose main affiliation is the Università della Svizzera italiana.
