SNSF National Research Programmes (NRP)

CONTACT: Anna Lazzarinetti (servizio.ricerca@usi.ch)

What is an NRP?

NRPs fund research that contributes to address societal challenges. The Federal Council decides on the topic and tasks the SNSF to manage the calls. So far, 84 NRPs have been launched; 3 new ones are on their way: Mental Health of Adolescents, Digital Resilience, Deglobalisation and Resilience.

How is an NRP different from other SNSF calls?

NRP projects are transdisciplinary and practice-oriented. They focus on developing solutions for the issues defined in the calls for proposals. In this view, cooperation and the exchange of knowledge with practitioners are of great importance.

Budget and Eligibility

The 3 newly launched NRPs will be funded with a total of CHF 17M. Typically, an NRP funds 10-20 projects with CHF 200-800K each for 3-4 years. Researchers with min. 4 years’ experience after PhD (or independent position) + min. 50% employment rate at a CH research institute can apply.
