Scientific exchanges: a booster for research and innovation

Short-term exchanges in EU/AC & third countries

MSCA Staff Exchanges promotes innovative international, inter-sectoral and interdisciplinary collaboration in research and innovation through short-term exchanges of research, technical, administrative and managerial staff supporting R&I activities.

Who can apply

Proposals must be submitted by consortia:
• min. 3 organizations (avg 6-10)
• from 3 different countries (at least 2 from EU or Associated)
• mix of different sectors (academic & non-academic)
CH institutions must apply as “beneficiary” to get funded. Their secondments count towards the max. 360PM.

 

Secondments as a key driver of the project

MSCA SEs are implemented through secondments: temporary visit of staff between participating institutions that must be international and/or intersectoral. They must support implementation, reflect partners’ roles, be realistically planned, time-bound, and include measures to manage potential delays.

 

Funding and duration

The grant funds exchanges of 1-12 mos. per staff, with €2870/mo. for each staff doing the exchange + €2300/mo. for the sending organization. Staff should return to their organizations after the secondment. All exchanges must take place within a period of 4 years.

 

Evaluation criteria

• EXCELLENCE, quality & relevance of the objectives, robustness of the methodology, & effectiveness of the collaboration
• IMPACT, career perspectives & skills development
• QUALITY and efficiency of the implementation
Success rate is 31.9%. Proposals scoring ≥70% may be funded.

SNSF Funding for research visits

The SNSF Scientific Exchanges supports research visits by Swiss-based researchers to other countries, as well as visits by researchers from abroad to Switzerland. Visits may last from 1 to 6 months.

Call deadline

Applications must be submitted at least 4 months and no more than 18 months before the first day of the Scientific Exchange.
Please note that a maximum of one visit per year can be funded per applicant.

 

Who can apply

• The applicant must always be the Swiss partner;
• Applicants must be employed at least 20% at a Swiss institution;
• Employment must be guaranteed for at least 6 months after the end of the visit;
• PhD students are not eligible, neither as hosts nor as guests.

 

Funding and duration

Visits may last from 1 to 6 months. The grant covers round-trip travel costs, provides a monthly flat rate to contribute to living expenses, and also covers visa-related costs for the visiting researcher.
