USI Support for Young Researchers: 2026 call still open

Supporting the next generation of researchers

This Institutional Fund for Research (FIR) call supports postdoctoral researchers in developing research independence, strengthening their academic profile, and preparing applications for major external funding schemes. Funding (up to CHF 120K) is available for projects of up to 24 months.

Eligibility criteria

The call is open to postdoctoral researchers employed at USI who obtained their PhD within the last four years (extensions may apply). Applicants must hold a USI employment contract of at least 50% for the entire project duration or have received a guarantee of such an employment.

Supporting research across all career stages

Not only does the FIR fund young researchers, but also doctoral mobility, the preparation of ERC proposals, and Open Science initiatives, thus supporting USI researchers across all career stages.

USI Doctoral Mobility

Supports USI doctoral candidates undertaking research stays abroad (6–12 months) to encourage international collaboration, research training and academic career development. Funding: up to CHF 20K.

 

DEADLINE: 1 SEPTEMBER 2026 AT 17:00

USI Preparatory Grant for ERC

Provides dedicated support to USI researchers preparing ERC proposals, helping them refine high-risk/high-gain research ideas and strengthen proposal competitiveness. Duration: 6–12 months. Funding: up to CHF 100K.

USI Open Science and Open Research Data

Supports USI projects advancing Open Science and Open Research Data practices across teaching and research activities through targeted one-off initiatives. Duration: 3–18 months. Funding: CHF 10K–50K.
