The Federal Office of Transport (FOT) supports research and innovation projects that contribute to the objectives of the 2050 Energy Strategy in Public Transport (ESPT).
Projects with high scientific value, potential economic and/or landscape implications for Swiss public transport are encouraged.

The call is intended to fund projects related to:
• Improving energy efficiency,
• Reducing CO₂ emissions,
• Contributing to the production of renewable energy,
• Phasing out nuclear energy,
• Improving the intelligent management of the energy system.

Projects have a maximum duration of 48 months and a maximum funding of CHF 500'000 (exception can be granted). Although, projects are expected to be primarily funded by the applicant, and funding will be granted only if the projects cannot be fully or partially financed by other means.

Depending on the type of project, the grant covers up to 50% of eligible costs for applied research and experimental development, and up to 40% for information, advisory, and training activities.

Eligible costs include personnel costs, as well as direct costs for infrastructure, materials, and software development necessary for the implementation of the project.
