SNSF career funding: new measures from 2026

Contact: Margot Carcuro (servizio.ricerca@usi.ch)

New postdoctoral funding scheme

The SNSF is currently rethinking its career funding portfolio to better support research excellence and respond to diverse career paths. The new scheme will replace Postdoc.Mobility and Ambizione, while Starting Grants will not be affected.

More diversity, greater autonomy

The new postdoctoral funding scheme will be launched in 2028 to better reflect diverse career paths, encourage collaboration and promote favorable working conditions.

Target group

The new funding scheme is aimed at early career researchers ready to lead their own projects, particularly those at R2 level, corresponding to the postdoctoral stage according to the EU descriptors.

Collaborations

Unlike current Postdoc.Mobility grantees, under the new scheme grantees will always be employed by a Swiss host institution, with collaboration encouraged through short- and long-term stays abroad.

Scope of the grant

The duration and funding provided will enable grantees to carry out their projects independently. Further information will be communicated in due time.

Changes to current career funding schemes

Next call deadline: 4 August 2026

SNSF Postdoc.Mobility

Three calls remain (August 2026, February and August 2027), after which the scheme will be replaced by the new postdoctoral funding programme.
