Preshita Thakur is a Ph.D. student exploring the digitization of Indian fashion magazines. Originally from India, she has worked within the Indian fashion industry, having completed internships at Elle India and Elle Singapore. Professor Hibberd and Professor Cantoni are supervising her PhD.
As part of the "Conversations with industry experts" course in the second semester, our students, Professor Cantoni and PhD Candidate Charlotte Stachel, visited Caritas Ticino to understand how the second-hand market functions and participate in the product selection process.
Congratulations to Verónica Espejo, Alumna of the USI DFC master's program, who was awarded first place for the best Master's thesis by TicinoModa! Her thesis, “Omnichannel Strategies and Digital Technologies in Stores: Cases from Fashion Retail,” was supervised by Dr. Alice Norris.
Every year in May, our master students attend the Innovation Day hosted by Dagorà. The event brings together industry professionals who discuss topics of sustainability, innovation, and trends in industries such as fashion and beauty.
This past month, 10 Digital Fashion Communication master's graduates received their diplomas at the Lugano Arte e Cultura Museum (LAC). We congratulate them all for a job well done! Professor Cantoni, pictured, attended the ceremony with our graduates.
Prof. Cantoni, with past and present DFC students, participated in the “Challenge your ideas” co-creation workshop at Dagorà LifeStyle Innovation Hub, part of the Innovation Booster Fashion & Lifestyle, to design a new digital innovation for the perfume industry!
Thank you to the 60+ people who attended FACTUM, to all those who submitted their papers, to the reviewers, and to the organizers at Stockholm University for hosting us. We had participants from 20+ countries. We look forward to meeting again in 2027!

Congratulations to Dai Zhu and Nadzeya Sabatini for the paper they wrote with Nicoletta Fornara on "Usability Challenges in Sentiment Analysis Tools: A Dual Approach for the Fashion Industry," which was one of the three papers to win the "Best Paper" award at FACTUM!
The FACTUM25 Conference Proceedings will be available starting in September 2025. They will be open access and include 32 full and short papers.
During FACTUM, on June 26th, there was a book presentation for "Social Media in the Fashion Industry: Fundamentals, Strategy, and Research Methods," a new book by Patricia SanMiguel, Tekila Harley Nobile, Cristina Sanchez-Blanco, and Nadzeya Sabatini!
PhD Candidate Mirjam-Sarah Lepp from USI led the focus group about "Creating Fashion Literacy Construct" at FACTUM on June 26th, which was attended by eight participants who shared their opinions and feedback on "fashion literacy" and its potential educational format.
Part of PhD Candidate Mia Lepp's upcoming research is to define the elements of "fashion literacy." We invite those interested to participate in a survey that covers fashion, media, health, sustainability, and product literacy. Thank you!
The exhibition "Habitus Fidei. The Robes of the Confraternities: A Journey through Art, History and Faith" will be held in Lucca, inside the Baptistery of St. Giovanni and Reparata from September 2025. In November 2025, it will be at Villa Ciani in Lugano.
