The next Summer School "Leverage ICTs for tourism" will take place in Lugano & Müstair (Switzerland) from August 24th to 31st, 2019. It is dedicated to investigating how ICTs designed to enhance the tourism experience can help in preserving and transmitting living heritage.
Held in Finland on August 20 - 31, it provided an immersive learning experience to more than 50 participants from over 17 countries; 1'270 Km of travel and 54 hours of class on the road; visits to 5 UNESCO World Heritage Sites and 2 Biosphere Reserves.
A team of UNESCO Chair discussed on "Communicating Cultural Heritage to global audiences of travelers" during the 7th European Communication Conference, held in Lugano from 31.10 to 3.11.2018.
Prof. Lorenzo Cantoni gave a keynote speech at the UNWTO Affiliate Members Plenary Session, held in Hamedan (Iran) on 12–14 November, 2018. Within the event's topic "Harnessing Cultural Tourism through Innovation and Technology", he discussed the role of ICTs to trigger cultural tourism potentials.
Prof. Lorenzo Cantoni talked about “New technologies and religion” during the “IX Jornades Universitàries de Turisme Religiós” that was held at the Abbey of Santa Maria de Montserrat (Spain) on November 13th, 2018.
Together with the UNESCO Chair “Gastronomy, Culture and Tourism” at the University of Girona (Spain) and Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, USI UNESCO Chair organized a conference on “Cultura, gastronomia e turismo", during the events of Lugano "Città del gusto 2018".
