The Chair is now part of the Our World Heritage initiative, by contributing to the theme of tourism. With the world in crisis, the very core of the landmark heritage protection treaty is strained. The Our World Heritage initiative supports the renewal and reinforcement of heritage protection.
A Wikipedia page dedicated to Karl Schmid has been created within the MARKS Interreg project, to raise awareness about the artist. The page is part of the communication plan the Chair is developing for the project, which aims at building a cultural pole between Switzerland and Italy.
Team members of the Chair will be contributing to ENTER21 conference (19 – 22 January 2021) with a paper as well as paneling several sessions. ENTER is the global leading conference on eTourism, organized annually by IFITT - International Federation for IT and Travel & Tourism.
Nature photographer Heinz Plenge joined the project and collaborated on the realization of a brand new story concerning his career as a heritage lover and his unique bond with Peru. The story can be found on the machupicc.hu website, which has recently been made available in Spanish.
The iWareBatik app has recently reached over 1k downloads, media attention from all over the world and was presented during the Lugano Living Lab's 2020 Swiss Digital Days as well as CIDOC-International Council of Museums ICOM 2020 in Geneva. Congratulations to Puspita Ayu Permatasari and team!
The Chair widely contributed to EUROMED 2020 on Digital Heritage, which took place online (2-5 Nov): prof. Cantoni was conference co-chair, and a workshop was organized gathering European stakeholders in tourism and heritage to discuss opportunities of digital media for tourism during the pandemic.
Team member, Emanuele Mele, successfully defended his PhD on “Analyzing cultural localization in online tourism promotion" in October! The thesis provides an essential contribution to both tourism theory and practice and sheds light on cross-cultural differences in a globalized online world.
Giulio is a Master student graduating in Hospitality & Tourism Management at IULM (Libera Università di Lingue e Comunicazione, Milan, Italy). He started his internship in September and worked on the communication plan for the Interreg project MARKS, which is also the focus of his Master thesis.
