In the QS World Universities Ranking 2021, USI was the highest 'new entry', ranking 273rd out of 1002 selected academic institutions. USI distinguished itself for its internationality, both for its students - 8th rank - and for its faculty - 17th rank.
Despite the unusual last months, the courses at USI have successfully ended, the exam session is running, and even the info week has been held, everything fully online. Here a video with several infos about the Master in International Tourism. Applications are possible until 31.08.2020.
Rafael Oliveira is a Ph.D. candidate in Knowledge Management & Organization at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil). During his visit at USI, he has investigated smart & sustainable culture indicators for WHS. The collaboration will continue from Brazil!
Within her PhD research, Puspita Ayu Permatasari supported by USI eLab and others, has developed a website and a mobile app to communicate the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage of Indonesian Batik. The website will be online on June 20th, 2020.
Despite some COVID-19 related cancellations, the Chair will host a 5-day-workshop with the project partners in September. We are also looking forward to the 1st Summer School with students in Poland (tba). Meanwhile, the work on eLearning materials and case studies is continuing.
The archive and website developed for the project "Machu Picchu through the eyes of Fernando Astete" will be published soon. We thank Carolina Guidi for the great work she has done this semester and welcome Maha Abdul Muhusin as a new team member. Stay tuned!
The project "eLearning for Tourism during the time of COVID-19" - aiming at supporting the resilience of the tourism sector - has been acknowledged by the UNWTO and received several letters of appreciation, amongst others by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions, and Tourism of Austria.
The paper titled "ICTs as a gateway to lifelong learning and training for World Heritage and Tourism: the case of “Tourism Management at UNESCO World Heritage Sites (vol.2)” MOOC" by Ilaria Rosani, Silvia De Ascaniis,Maria Gravari-Barbas, and Lorenzo Cantoni, will be presented at EdMedia + Innovate Learning 2020 Online (June 23-26, 2020).
The report titled "AlUla: Building the ultimate tourism destination" has been prepared by a group of experts of the UNESCO UNITWIN network "Culture, tourism, development", after their visit to AlUla (KSA), to brainstorm tourism development and its social, cultural and economic implications.
