Da settembre 2026 i Professori Mario Jametti e Alberto Plazzi sono i nuovi direttori rispettivamente dell'Istituto di economia politica (IdEP) e dell'Istituto di finanza (IFin) dell'USI. Subentrano ai Professori Fabrizio Mazzonna ed Eric Nowak, precedentemente in carica dal 2022 e dal 2018.

I Professori Mauro Pezzè e Mehdi Jazayeri sono stati inseriti nella classe inaugurale della Software Engineering Academy di ACM SIGSOFT, creata per riconoscere ricercatori, docenti e professionisti che hanno contribuito allo sviluppo dell'ingegneria del software.

Il Gruppo di lavoro sull'IA generativa dell'USI collega competenze provenienti da diverse Facoltà e servizi per supportarne l'uso responsabile attraverso raccomandazioni, attività didattiche, buone pratiche, consulenza e un punto di contatto per le domande della comunità universitaria.

Musei, mostre ed eventi, ma anche gastronomia, vino e vita urbana: il turismo culturale assume forme sempre più diverse. Claudio Visentin, Docente del Master in International Tourism, ha riflettuto nell'ambito della trasmissione Neo (RSI) sulle strategie delle destinazioni e sul caso ticinese.

Dallo scorso mese di giugno l'USI ha aderito a Go2RAIL, rete che mette in contatto studenti diretti verso la stessa destinazione per favorire viaggi condivisi e più sostenibili. L'USI è la prima università svizzera a entrare nel network, che riunisce 53 istituzioni.

Venerdì 2 e sabato 3 ottobre l'USI ospiterà la trentesima edizione del Premio Möbius Multimedia Lugano, dedicata per il 2026 al tema "La mente contesa". Tra gli interventi in programma anche quelli della Docente Eleonora Benecchi, della dottoranda Petra Mazzoni e del Professore Edoardo Beretta.

In vista della possibile adesione della Svizzera a Erasmus+ dal 2027/28, il Servizio relazioni internazionali e mobilità ha ottenuto la Carta Erasmus per l'istruzione superiore e avviato la formazione del personale, il rinnovo degli accordi con le università partner e l'adeguamento delle procedure.

Lunedì 5 ottobre il Servizio relazioni internazionali e mobilità propone "Welcome to Switzerland: Your Intercultural Survival Guide", un workshop in lingua inglese con la Dr.ssa Paula Nestea per aiutare studenti e ricercatori internazionali a orientarsi tra le particolarità culturali svizzere.

Mercoledì 7 ottobre Dušan Borovčanin, nuovo Docente di Event Management all’USI ed ex CEO di EXPO 2027 Belgrado, presenterà al Campus Ovest di Lugano il caso dell’esposizione mondiale serba e approfondirà le nuove tendenze nella gestione dei grandi eventi internazionali e il loro ruolo nel turismo.

Giovedì 8 ottobre l’Istituto di comunicazione e politiche pubbliche (ICPP) e il Competence Center in Digital Law (CCDigitalLaw) propongono un incontro sull’autorialità nell’era dell’IA generativa, tra prospettive giuridiche e dati da un’indagine del 2025 tra accademici svizzeri.

La Cappellania universitaria propone durante il semestre diverse occasioni di incontro aperte alla comunità studentesca: ogni settimana un pranzo e una colazione, accompagnati da cinque prossime serate dedicate allo sport tra ottobre e dicembre.

Il Comitato Svizzero delle Dighe premia un lavoro di Master dedicato al settore delle dighe, realizzato presso un ateneo o una scuola universitaria professionale svizzera. Il tema può avere carattere tecnico, scientifico o filosofico. Le candidature sono aperte fino al 15 novembre 2026.

Il 27 ottobre torna USI Meets Industry, l'incontro di USI Transfer tra mondo accademico e aziende. Ospite Carlo Centonze, cofondatore e CEO di HeiQ, che approfondirà le scelte strategiche per proteggere l'innovazione attraverso brevetti e segreti commerciali. Iscrizioni aperte fino al 19 ottobre.

Martedì 20 ottobre si terrà la settima edizione dell'Incubation Kick-off Pitch. Tre startup accettate nel programma di incubazione dell'USI Startup Centre saliranno sul palco per presentare i loro progetti innovativi e confrontarsi con il pubblico durante la sessione di Q&A.

Lo Swiss Scale-Up Report 2026 fornisce una panoramica dell’ecosistema svizzero delle scale-up: 265 aziende con un valore complessivo stimato di 26,6 miliardi di franchi, il 43% delle quali nate da università e istituti di ricerca. Il Prof. Laurent Frésard ha contribuito al rapporto.

L'USI sostiene le collaboratrici, i collaboratori, le studentesse e gli studenti che hanno una disponibilità economica limitata e che, per conciliare vita familiare e lavoro/studio, ricorrono al collocamento diurno extra-familiare per i figli di età compresa fra 0 e i 3-4 anni.

Si è conclusa con successo l'edizione 2026 del Junior Camp USI-SUPSI. Trentasei bambini e bambine, figli e figlie dei membri del personale e del corpo studentesco di USI e SUPSI, hanno vissuto una settimana all'insegna del gioco, della scoperta e della creatività.

Da giovedì 1 ottobre a martedì 15 dicembre partecipa a Bikecoin: accumula coins andando in USI a piedi o in bici e prova a vincere buoni mensa, buoni sport o il premio finale dal valore complessivo di circa 500 CHF. Insieme, puntiamo a 40'000 km per realizzare stalli bici coperti nelle sedi USI.

Rosalia Tufano, ricercatrice postdoc della Facoltà di scienze informatiche dell'USI, ha ricevuto un Distinguished Paper Award a ICSME 2026 per uno studio che esplora lo sviluppo di assistenti IA capaci di partecipare al dialogo tra sviluppatori durante la revisione del codice.

Jelena Veljkovic ha conseguito il Master of Arts in Public Management and Policy-ECO all'USI nel 2016 e il MAS in Economia e management sanitario e sociosanitario nel 2019. Attualmente ricopre il ruolo di Head Compliance presso AIL SA a Muzzano.

In June, USI joined Go2RAIL, a network that connects students travelling to the same destination to encourage shared and more sustainable travel. USI is the first Swiss university to join the network, which brings together 53 institutions.

In preparation for Switzerland's possible accession to Erasmus+, the International Relations and Study Abroad Service has obtained the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education and initiated staff training, the renewal of agreements with partner universities, and the adaptation of its procedures.

During the semester, the University Chaplaincy offers various opportunities for the student community to meet: a weekly lunch and breakfast, accompanied by five upcoming sports evenings between October and December.

The Swiss Committee on Dams is awarding a prize for a Master's thesis dedicated to the dam sector, carried out at a Swiss university or university of applied sciences. The topic may be of a technical, scientific, or philosophical nature. Applications are open until 15 November 2026.

USI Meets Industry, the event organised by USI Transfer connecting the academia and companies, resumes on 27 October. Guest speaker Carlo Centonze, co-founder and CEO of HeiQ, will explore strategic choices for protecting innovation through patents and trade secrets. Registration by 19 October.

The seventh edition of the Incubation Kick-off Pitch will take place on Tuesday, October 20th. Three startups recently accepted in the USI Startup Centre’s incubation programme, will get on stage to present their innovative projects and engage with the audience through a Q&A session.

The Swiss Scale-Up Report 2026 maps Switzerland’s scale-up ecosystem: 265 companies with an estimated combined value of CHF 26.6 billion, 43% originating from universities and research institutions. Prof. Laurent Frésard contributed to the report.

USI supports staff members and students with limited financial resources who, in order to balance family life and work or study, make use of out-of-home daycare for children aged between 0 and 3–4 years.

The 2026 USI-SUPSI Junior Camp has successfully concluded. 36 children of staff members and students from USI and SUPSI spent a week filled with play, discovery, and creativity.

Rosalia Tufano, a postdoctoral researcher at USI Faculty of Informatics, received a Distinguished Paper Award at ICSME 2026 for a study exploring the development of AI assistants capable of participating in conversations among developers during code review.
