L’USI sale nel Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2026, passando dalla fascia 301–350 alla fascia 251–300. Un risultato che conferma la crescita dell’Ateneo e la qualità del suo impegno in ricerca, internazionalizzazione e formazione.

Le startup incubate all'USI Startup Centre hanno raccolto nel 2025 quasi 12 milioni di franchi tra fondi diluitivi e non diluitivi, segnando un anno record. I progetti, attivi nei settori life sciences e TIC, confermano il ruolo dell'USI come motore d'innovazione e trasferimento tecnologico.

L'USI è stata accettata tra i nuovi firmatari della Magna Charta Universitatum 2020, documento che rappresenta la dichiarazione universale dei principi fondamentali dell'educazione superiore. La cerimonia si terrà a Londra nel mese di novembre. Per l'USI parteciperà la Prorettrice Sonja Hildebrand.

Cinque ricercatori e ricercatrici dell'USI e dell'IRB, affiliato all'ateneo, sono stati selezionati dal bando Ambizione 2024 del Fondo nazionale svizzero, che sostiene progetti innovativi per consolidare l'indipendenza scientifica nelle prime fasi di carriera.

Sabato 18 ottobre 2025, dalle 15:00, il fiume Cassarate diventerà palcoscenico di Unfolding the river, un happening urbano ideato dall’Accademia di architettura dell’USI in collaborazione con l’Associazione Idra. L’evento si terrà presso il Campus Est USI-SUPSI.

L’8 ottobre il Consiglio federale ha raccomandato al Parlamento di respingere l’iniziativa popolare "Sì a un futuro senza esperimenti sugli animali", ritenendo il divieto troppo restrittivo e dannoso per ricerca e salute. Confermato invece l’impegno sul principio delle 3R per il benessere animale.

Venerdì 24 ottobre torna il Master Info Day dell’USI, occasione per scoprire l’offerta di lauree magistrali a Lugano e Mendrisio. Professori, studenti e alumni presenteranno programmi, opportunità e prospettive professionali in un evento aperto, in presenza e online, con registrazione obbligatoria.

Le Biblioteche dell’USI partecipano per la prima volta all’International Open Access Week 2025 con un evento dedicato al tema “Who owns our knowledge?”. L’incontro si terrà martedì 21 ottobre dalle 12:00 alle 14:00 presso la BiblioAgorà del Campus Est a Lugano.

Dal 14 novembre al 29 marzo il TAM di Mendrisio ospita due mostre promosse dall’Accademia di architettura USI: “Reality Show” di Stefano Graziani sulla fotografia contemporanea e “Archisatire” sul rapporto tra satira e architettura. L'inaugurazione si terrà il 13 novembre alle ore 18:30.

Martedì 21 ottobre torna “USI Meets Industry”. Quest'anno l’incontro si terrà presso l’Accademia di architettura. L'evento favorisce il dialogo tra università e imprese. Dedicato a innovazione e tecnologie nel settore dell’architettura, l’evento prevede interventi e networking tra le due realtà.

Nelle fasi preliminari di una collaborazione, è fondamentale proteggere informazioni riservate al fine di prevenire divulgazioni che potrebbero avere conseguenze legali per i ricercatori e per l'ateneo. USI Transfer offre supporto nella gestione di questi rapporti preliminari.

Sabato 25 ottobre alle 20:45, al Teatro Sociale di Bellinzona, andrà in scena Allegro Bestiale con Telmo Pievani, tra scienza, musica e teatro. Lo spettacolo, parte della rassegna “Ora tocca a noi!”, invita a riflettere con leggerezza e profondità sul valore della biodiversità e della sostenibilità.

Nell’ambito del progetto H.I.T. Leadership Programme dell’Università di Zurigo è proposto il workshop “Dealing with workplace conflict as a thought leader”, rivolto esclusivamente alle professoresse delle università svizzere.

Un programma rivolto alle giovani ricercatrici USI (dottorande e postdoc) che si propone di accompagnarle nel percorso accademico offrendo un orientamento qualificato per pianificare la propria carriera accademica attraverso incontri one to one con una persona esperta (Mentor) nel settore scelto.

Nel 2023 le emissioni totali dell’USI ammontavano a 2’426 tonnellate di CO2. Queste comprendevano: riscaldamento, spostamenti con veicoli USI, elettricità, viaggi di lavoro, rifiuti e acquisto di alcuni beni e servizi.

Costanza Lucchini, dottoranda dell'Istituto di argomentazione, linguistica e semiotica (IALS) dell'USI, è stata recentemente insignita del Frans van Eemeren Prize for Outstanding Student Paper, promosso nell'ambito della quinta European Conference on Argumentation (ECA) tenutasi a Varsavia.

Simone Rava ha ottenuto il Master of Science in Informatics all'USI nel 2023. Attualmente ricopre il ruolo di Software Engineer presso adesso Schweiz a Lugano.

USI moves up in the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2026. The university rises from the 301-350 range to 251-300. This result confirms the University's growth and the quality of its commitment to research, internationalisation and education.

The startups incubated at the USI Startup Centre raised nearly 12 million Swiss francs in dilutive and non-dilutive funds in 2025, marking a record year. The projects, active in the life sciences and ICT sectors, confirm USI's role as a driver of innovation and technology transfer.

USI has been accepted as one of the new signatories of the Magna Charta Universitatum 2020, a document that represents the universal declaration of the fundamental principles of higher education. The ceremony will be held in London in November. USI Pro-Rector Sonja Hildebrand will attend.

Five researchers from USI and the USI-affiliated IRB have been selected by the SNSF's Ambizione 2024 call for proposals, which supports innovative projects to consolidate scientific independence in the early stages of a career.

On Saturday, 18 October 2025, from 5pm, the Cassarate river will become the stage for Unfolding the river, an urban happening conceived by USI Academy of Architecture with the Idra Association. The event will be held at the USI-SUPSI East Campus.

The Federal Council recommended that Parliament reject the popular initiative "Yes to a future without animal experiments" on 8 October, considering the ban too restrictive and harmful to research and health. However, it confirmed its commitment to the 3Rs principle for animal welfare.

USI Master Info Day returns on Friday, 24 October. A chance to discover the range of Master's degrees available in Lugano and Mendrisio. Professors, students and alumni will present programmes, opportunities and career prospects at an open event, held in person and online. Registration required.

The USI Libraries are participating for the first time in International Open Access Week 2025 with an event dedicated to "Who owns our knowledge?". The encounter will be held on Tuesday, 21 October from 12 pm to 2 pm at BiblioAgorà on the East Campus Lugano.

TAM Mendrisio is hosting two exhibitions promoted by the USI Academy of Architecture from 14 November to 29 March: “Reality Show” by Stefano Graziani on contemporary photography and “Archisatire” on the relationship between satire and architecture. The opening will be held on 13 November at 6:30 pm.
