Nel QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 l'USI ha migliorato il proprio posizionamento in Computer Science, Economics e Medicine. L'ateneo si conferma competitivo a livello nazionale e internazionale, rafforzando la propria reputazione in discipline chiave.

Un commento pubblicato su Nature Mental Health dal Prof. Andrea Raballo, direttore del REMEDI Lab all'USI, insieme a Michele Poletti e Antonio Preti sfida un'idea diffusa nella neuroscienze: che alcune caratteristiche cerebrali "determinino" o, al contrario, "proteggano" dalla schizofrenia.

Giovedì 16 aprile al Campus Ovest si terrà un evento Agorà con la proiezione di video realizzati da rifugiati eritrei durante un workshop. Le opere raccontano esperienze di migrazione e vita in Svizzera e saranno seguite da un dibattito con partecipanti e ricercatori sul tema dell’appartenenza.

La comunità accademica dell'USI piange Mauro Martinoni, figura centrale nella nascita e nello sviluppo dell'ateneo, di cui è stato tra i promotori fin dalle origini. Il suo lavoro, spesso dietro le quinte, è stato determinante per trasformare idee ambiziose in realtà.

L’Osservatorio dello Sviluppo Territoriale dell’USI ha lanciato il nuovo sito che raccoglie dati, mappe e statistiche sul monitoraggio della “Città Ticino”. Il progetto nasce dalla collaborazione tra Accademia e Cantone, attiva dal 2007, nell’ambito di un mandato a rinnovo quadriennale.

Nel mese di aprile un ciclo di tre incontri tra fisica e filosofia esplora il concetto di informazione. Le serate, con il fisico Cesare Alfieri e ospiti accademici, affrontano temi come l'informazione quantistica, la comunicazione e il paradosso dei buchi neri tra riflessione teorica e divulgazione.

Lunedì 11 aprile, in occasione della Giornata mondiale del Parkinson, l’USI ospita e sostiene l'evento organizzato da EOC, Associazione Parkinson Svizzera, Nordic walking Ticino e Clinica Hildebrand per informare sull’importanza della prevenzione, della ricerca e del supporto a pazienti e famiglie.

Martedì 14 aprile presso il Teatro Centro sociale di Mendrisio si terrà il convegno "Oltre lo schermo" promosso dall'OSC in collaborazione con l'USI. L'evento propone una riflessione interdisciplinare sulle tecnologie digitali come nuovo ecosistema della mente, tra creatività, uso e dipendenze.

Ad aprile l'USI proporrà due eventi dedicati alla scelta del Master. Dal 13 al 24 aprile i Master Meetings permetteranno di assistere a lezioni e conoscere i programmi insieme agli studenti USI, che saranno a disposizione anche il 16 aprile in occasione del nuovo e informale Master's Aperitif.

Sono aperte le iscrizioni alla Summer School "Effective High-Performance Computing and Data Analytics". Organizzata dall'Istituto di Computing (CI) e dal Centro Svizzero di Calcolo Scientifico (CSCS), si terrà dal 25 al 31 luglio in presenza, con possibilità di partecipazione da remoto.

Gli studenti del corso "Preparing for the Future of Cinema and the Audiovisual Arts" hanno visitato la mostra "K-Now! Korean Video Art Today" esposta al MASI. L'esperienza, in dialogo con il corso, ha approfondito il rapporto tra tecnologie emergenti, media e nuove forme dell'immagine in movimento.

Lo scorso 23 marzo si è tenuto all'USI un workshop sulla proprietà intellettuale promosso da USI Transfer e USI Startup Centre con l'Istituto Federale della Proprietà Intellettuale. L'evento ha offerto strumenti pratici e strategie per proteggere innovazioni, sensibilizzando ricercatori e studenti.

Dal 15 al 17 aprile si terrà il secondo Seminario alpino su pari opportunità, inclusione e diversità. Attraverso attività esperienziali e confronto guidato, si avrà la possibilità di apprendere come riconoscere e superare stereotipi promuovendo ambienti sociali più consapevoli e accoglienti.

Nell’ambito di una corretta gestione dei rifiuti riciclabili, ogni anno la ditta PET-Recycling, su mandato dell’USI, raccoglie le bottiglie in PET (nel 2025, ben 636 chilogrammi per il Campus Ovest Lugano) rilasciando un certificato con la quantità di gas serra non emessi e petrolio risparmiato.

Nell’ambito delle attività del programma H.I.T. 2026, è previsto per il 1° giugno un evento aperto a tutte le professoresse USI, dedicato al tema “Inclusive Academic Leadership” e organizzato in collaborazione con il Servizio pari opportunità di USI.

Marco Dell'Acqua ha ottenuto il Master in Banking and Finance all'USI nel 2014. Attualmente ricopre il ruolo di Regional Head Sales & Investment Advisory WMCH Ticino presso UBS a Lugano.

In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, USI has moved up in Computer Science, Economics, and Medicine. The university remains competitive at both national and international level, strengthening its reputation in key disciplines.

On Thursday, 16 April, an Agorà event will be held at the West Campus, featuring videos created by Eritrean refugees during a workshop. The works recount experiences of migration and life in Switzerland, followed by a discussion with participants and researchers on the theme of belonging.

The academic community of USI mourns the passing of Mauro Martinoni, a central figure in the founding and development of our University, and one of its earliest pioneers. His work, often conducted behind the scenes, was instrumental in transforming ambitious ideas into reality.

The USI Spatial Development Observatory has launched a new website featuring data, maps and statistics on the monitoring of "Città Ticino". The project stems from a collaboration between the University and the Canton that has been ongoing since 2007 under a four-year, renewable contract.

In April, three lectures on physics and philosophy will explore the concept of information. The evenings, with physicist Cesare Alfieri and academic guests, will address topics in quantum information, communication and the black hole paradox, between theoretical reflection and dissemination.

On Monday, 11 April, to mark World Parkinson's Day, USI is hosting and supporting an event organised by EOC, the Swiss Parkinson's Association, Nordic Walking Ticino and the Hildebrand Clinic to raise awareness of the importance of prevention, research and support for patients and their families.

On Tuesday, 14 April, the "Beyond the Screen" conference, organised by OSC in collaboration with USI, will take place at Teatro Centro Sociale in Mendrisio. The event offers an interdisciplinary exploration of digital technologies as a new mind ecosystem, between creativity, use and addiction.

In April, USI will host two Master's degree events. From 13 to 24 April, Master Meetings offer a chance to attend lectures and explore programmes with USI students. These students will also be available on 16 April for the new, informal Master's Aperitif.

Discover the new platform for sharing visual data responsibly, explore the ethical and legal challenges, and learn practical strategies for implementing context-sensitive open data practices in research. Join one of the two interactive workshops on Visual Data and Open Science.

Registration is now open for this year's Summer School on "Effective High-Performance Computing and Data Analytics". Organised by the Institute of Computing and the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre , the School will be held from 25 to 31 July 2026, as an in-person event and online.

Students from the "Preparing for the Future of Cinema and the Audiovisual Arts" course visited the "K-Now! Korean Video Art Today" exhibition at MASI. The visit, complementing the course curriculum, explored the relationship among emerging technologies, media, and new forms of the moving image.

On 23 March, USI Transfer and USI Startup Centre, in collaboration with the Federal Institute of Intellectual Property, hosted a workshop on intellectual property at USI. The event provided researchers and students with practical tools and strategies to safeguard their innovations.

The 2nd Alpine Seminar on equal opportunities, inclusion and diversity will run from 15 to 17 April. Through experiential activities and guided discussion, participants will learn to recognise and overcome stereotypes, promoting more aware and welcoming social environments.

As part of proper recyclable waste management, PET-Recycling collects PET bottles from USI annually. In 2025, 636kg were collected at the Lugano West Campus alone. The firm provides a certificate detailing the resulting reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and the amount of oil saved.

As part of the activities of the H.I.T. 2026 programme, an event open to all female academics at USI is scheduled for 1 June 2026. The event will focus on the theme “Inclusive Academic Leadership" and is organised in collaboration with the USI Equal Opportunities Service.
