Gabriele Balbi commenta la decisione del Consiglio di Stato di ridurre di 5,5 milioni di CHF i contributi all'USI, che si aggiungono a un milione già annunciato. L'ateneo si prepara a misure di adattamento, "ma la qualità della formazione e la competitività della ricerca non ne risentiranno".

Il ZAZ Bellerive di Zurigo ospita attualmente la mostra "Zurich Dialogues on Densification", curata dai Professori Jonathan Sergison (USI) e Tom Avermaete (ETH Zurich). L'esposizione nasce da un progetto Agorà volto a rendere comprensibili al grande pubblico le sfide della densificazione urbana.

Lo IOR partecipa a tre nuovi progetti internazionali per sviluppare terapie contro tumori del sangue. Gli studi, ai quali collabora il Prof. Francesco Bertoni, rafforzano le collaborazioni globali e puntano a comprendere meglio i meccanismi cellulari alla base di linfomi e leucemie.

Sabato 25 aprile si terrà il 30° Dies academicus, momento di incontro dedicato allo sviluppo dell’Ateneo animato da interventi istituzionali, approfondimenti e onorificenze. Nel pomeriggio andrà poi in scena la seconda edizione di UniVerso, con attività aperte al pubblico tra scienza e divertimento.

Sabato 25 aprile alle 18:00 il neurobiologo Stefano Mancuso terrà l’incontro “Sostenibilità: cosa ci insegnano le piante”, serata culturale nell’ambito di UniVerso. L'evento esplorerà come le strategie di adattamento e cooperazione del mondo vegetale possano ispirare nuovi modelli di sostenibilità.

Lunedì 27 aprile al Campus Ovest si terrà la conferenza “Razzismo antimusulmano in Svizzera e in Ticino”, dedicata all’analisi di un fenomeno in crescita. L’incontro presenterà i risultati di uno studio sul tema e due tavole rotonde per discutere il contesto ticinese e possibili azioni di contrasto.

Il Consiglio della Facoltà di comunicazione, cultura e società ha rinnovato il mandato del gruppo decanale per il periodo 1° settembre 2026 - 31 agosto 2028. Confermati Matthew Hibberd come Decano, Jolanta Drzewiecka come Vicedecana e Delegata agli studi e Lorenzo Cantoni come Vicedecano.

In occasione dei 25 anni della rete Scholars at Risk, l'USI rinnova il proprio impegno per la libertà accademica con iniziative ispirate al tema "Truth Matters". Tra queste, una serie di contributi aperti alla comunità accademica dedicati al valore della verità nella ricerca.

USI, in collaborazione con SUPSI e il Servizio Trasfusionale CRS della Svizzera italiana, torna a fare la sua parte nella raccolta di donazioni di sangue. Martedì 5 e mercoledì 6 maggio, presso il Campus Est USI-SUPSI di Lugano, sarà possibile effettuare una donazione previa iscrizione.

Si è recentemente conclusa a Bellinzona l'ottava edizione del CAS in Gestione della formazione per dirigenti d’istituzioni formative realizzato da SUFFP, SUPSI e USI. Il percorso annuale ha diplomato 16 responsabili di istituti scolastici, rafforzando competenze di leadership e gestione.

Recentemente la Facoltà di scienze informatiche dell'USI ha ospitato studentesse e studenti del Liceo di Mendrisio per un laboratorio sulla programmazione dei droni. L'attività, basata su missioni e sfide pratiche, ha offerto un primo contatto con lo sviluppo software applicato.

La Fondazione Dalle Molle promuove il concorso annuale “Label Qualità della Vita”, dedicato a progetti di ricerca e innovazione che utilizzano tecnologie digitali per migliorare il benessere umano. Il progetto vincitore riceverà un premio fino a 10'000 CHF. Candidature aperte fino al 31 maggio.

La Corporazione delle studentesse e degli studenti invita a proporre idee per animare YOUniversity 2026, in programma giovedì 24 settembre al Campus Est USI-SUPSI di Lugano. La proposta più originale e realizzabile verrà premiata con 250 CHF. È possibile partecipare sino al 1° maggio.

All'interno del progetto EASE - Educational Academic Staff Empowerment l'eLab propone un workshop, sviluppato in collaborazione con l'Università di Berna, sul tema della motivazione degli studenti. Il workshop è indirizzato a tutti i docenti e gli assistenti dell'USI, e si terrà venerdì 8 maggio.

L'USI è partner di Swiss Biotech Day e Swiss Startup Days, due importanti eventi nazionali dedicati a biotecnologie e deep-tech. Attraverso USI Transfer e USI Startup Centre, l'ateneo rafforza l'ecosistema dell'innovazione sostenendo ricerca, imprenditorialità e collaborazioni con startup e aziende.

Giovedì 7 maggio si terrà l’evento Innosuisse Co-founder Matchmaking 2026, che mette in contatto aspiranti imprenditori e persone interessate a unirsi a startup in fase iniziale, tramite sessioni strutturate di matchmaking e speed-dating. Le iscrizioni sono aperte.

L'identificazione di un nuovo meccanismo di resistenza alla terapia nel cancro alla prostata ha portato alla nascita di un progetto innovativo all'interno dell'Istituto oncologico di ricerca (IOR), successivamente evolutosi in un'invenzione brevettata e nella startup MicThera.

Dal 15 al 17 aprile si è svolto il secondo Seminario alpino della Casa della sostenibilità USI dedicato a pari opportunità, inclusione e valorizzazione delle diversità. Studentesse e studenti hanno vissuto tre giorni immersivi tra natura, riflessione teorica ed esperienze partecipative ad Airolo.

Lunedì 18 maggio si terrà l’evento annuale del Programma di Mentoring BPW-USI su leadership femminile e mentoring come strumento di empowerment. Interverranno donne provenienti da settori diversi che condivideranno percorsi per costruire carriere di successo. Evento aperto a tutta la comunità USI.

Per limitare il consumo di acqua in bottiglia l’USI ha installato 9 erogatori: 5 sul Campus Ovest di Lugano e 4 sul Campus di Mendrisio. In media, vengono consumati oltre 280L di acqua alla settimana proveniente dagli erogatori, con un risparmio di 30'000 bottiglie monouso di plastica.

Carol Mantovani ha ottenuto il Master in Marketing and Transformative Economy all'USI nel 2018. Attualmente ricopre il ruolo di Marketing Manager presso Adidas in Baviera (Germania).

The exhibition stems from an Agorà project aimed at making the challenges of urban densification accessible to the general public.

IOR is participating in 3 new international projects aimed at developing treatments for blood cancers. The studies, in which Prof. Francesco Bertoni is involved, strengthen global collaborations and aim to gain a better understanding of the cellular mechanisms underlying lymphomas and leukaemias.

The 30th Dies academicus will be held on Saturday, 25 April. Dedicated to the University's development, it features institutional speeches, insights and honours. In the afternoon, the second UniVerso will take place, with activities open to the public combining science and entertainment.

On Saturday, 25 April at 6 pm, neurobiologist Stefano Mancuso will give the talk "Sustainability: what plants teach us", a cultural evening held as part of UniVerso. The event will explore how the plant world's strategies for adaptation and cooperation can inspire new models of sustainability.

On Monday, 27 April, the West Campus will host the conference "Anti-Muslim Racism in Switzerland and Ticino," exploring a growing phenomenon. The event will present the results of a study on the topic, followed by two roundtables to discuss the Ticino context and potential countermeasures.

The Faculty Council of Communication, Culture and Society has renewed the mandate of the Dean's board for the period of 1 September 2026 – 31 August 2028. Matthew Hibberd has been confirmed as Dean, with Jolanta Drzewiecka as Associate Dean and Study Delegate, and Lorenzo Cantoni as Associate Dean.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the Scholars at Risk network, USI is renewing its commitment to academic freedom with initiatives inspired by the theme "Truth Matters". These include a series of contributions open to the academic community, dedicated to the value of truth in research.

USI is once again playing its part in organising blood donation drives in collaboration with SUPSI and the SRC Blood Transfusion Service for Southern Switzerland. On Tuesday, 5 May, and Wednesday, 6 May, at the USI-SUPSI East Campus in Lugano, you can donate blood by booking in advance.

The eighth edition of the CAS in Management of Educational Institutions, organised by SUFFP, SUPSI, and USI, recently concluded in Bellinzona. The one-year programme saw 16 school administrators earn their diplomas, enhancing their expertise in leadership and management.

The Faculty of Informatics recently hosted high school students from Liceo di Mendrisio for a workshop on drone programming. The session, which focused on practical tasks and challenges, gave the students their first taste of applied software development.

The Dalle Molle Foundation is promoting the annual "Quality of Life Label" competition, dedicated to research and innovation projects that use digital technologies to improve human well-being. The winning project will receive a prize of up to CHF 10,000. Applications are open until 31 May.

The Student Corporation invites you to submit ideas to bring YOUniversity 2026 to life, scheduled for Thursday, 24 September at the USI-SUPSI East Campus in Lugano. The most original and feasible proposal will be awarded a prize of CHF 250. Entries are open until 1 May.

As part of the EASE project (Educational Academic Staff Empowerment), eLab is offering a workshop on student motivation, developed in collaboration with the University of Bern. The workshop is open to all USI faculty and assistants and will take place on Friday, 8 May.

Innosuisse Co-founder Matchmaking 2026 will take place on Thursday, 7 May. Through structured matchmaking and speed-dating sessions, the event connects aspiring entrepreneurs with individuals interested in joining early-stage startups. Registration is now open.

The identification of a new mechanism of therapy resistance in prostate cancer has led to the creation of an innovative project within the Institute of Oncology Research (IOR). This project subsequently evolved into a patented invention and the spin-off startup, MicThera.

From 15 to 17 April, the USI House of Sustainability hosted its second Alpine Seminar dedicated to equal opportunities, inclusion, and the promotion of diversity. Students experienced a three-day immersive stay in Airolo, balancing time in nature with academic reflection and participatory workshops.

The BPW-USI Mentoring Programme will hold its annual event on female leadership and mentoring as a tool for empowerment on Monday, 18 May. The event will feature women from various sectors who will share their journeys and strategies for building successful careers. Event open to the USI community.

To reduce the consumption of bottled water, USI has installed nine dispensers: five on the West Campus Lugano and four on the Mendrisio Campus. On average, over 280L of water are consumed weekly from these dispensers, resulting in a saving of 30,000 single-use plastic bottles.
