L'Accademia di architettura vanta una delle più alte concentrazioni al mondo di Premi Pritzker. La Direttrice esecutiva Manuela Lucá-Dazio evidenzia come i principi che ne ispirano l'assegnazione trovino piena corrispondenza nella visione umanistica, interdisciplinare e innovativa dell'Accademia.

L'USI partecipa al nuovo Laboratorio interistituzionale sulle sfide demografiche promosso da Città di Lugano, SUPSI e IBSA Foundation. L'iniziativa punta a trasformare la ricerca sui cambiamenti demografici in proposte concrete per affrontare temi come natalità, invecchiamento e inclusione sociale.

L'Accademia di architettura dell'USI ha conferito 130 diplomi di Master in Architettura, 10 Master in Storia e teoria dell'arte e dell'architettura e 5 dottorati. Durante la cerimonia sono stati assegnati anche i principali premi accademici ai migliori progetti e percorsi di studio.

Uno studio guidato dal Prof. Davide Robbiani dell'Istituto di ricerca in biomedicina (IRB), affiliato all'USI, con partner di Stanford, Zurigo, Masaryk e Novi Sad, ha identificato anticorpi umani capaci di proteggere dal virus del Nilo Occidentale e da virus correlati.

La Dr.ssa Serena Petrocchi è stata nominata membro del Comitato etico dell'USI. Docente e ricercatrice presso la Facoltà di scienze biomediche, affiancherà il Comitato nell'applicazione dei principi etici, nonché nell'esame di progetti, pubblicazioni e questioni legate all'integrità scientifica.

Il poeta, saggista e docente USI Fabio Pusterla è stato insignito del Premio alla Carriera nell'ambito del Premio di Poesia Alma Mater - Violani Landi, riconoscimento conferito dal Centro di poesia contemporanea dell'Università di Bologna. La cerimonia si è tenuta il 17 giugno nella città emiliana.

All'Assemblea annuale della SAGW-ASSH l'USI ha ottenuto importanti riconoscimenti: Daniela Mondini è stata eletta nel comitato dell'Accademia svizzera delle scienze umane e sociali, mentre Will Davis ha ricevuto il secondo premio dell'Early Career Award, dedicato ai giovani ricercatori.

L'Istituto ricerche solari Aldo e Cele Daccò (IRSOL) ha pubblicato il proprio Rapporto annuale 2025. Il documento presenta i principali risultati scientifici ottenuti nel corso dell'anno e offre una panoramica delle attività di ricerca, formazione e divulgazione dell'Istituto.

A meno di un anno dalla sua fondazione, l'Istituto di ricerca traslazionale (IRT) USI-EOC ha pubblicato il primo rapporto annuale. L'istituto riunisce 4 divisioni di ricerca e punta a rafforzare il polo biomedico ticinese, promuovendo studi traslazionali e una strategia condivisa con IRB e IOR.

Il nuovo rapporto mette in evidenza i risultati e gli sviluppi del 2025 nei tre pilastri di attività: community, formazione e incubazione. Tra questi, il rafforzamento dei percorsi imprenditoriali per ricercatori e studenti, il record di finanziamenti raccolti dalle startup incubate e la sesta exit.

Dal 9 al 26 luglio a Lugano e dal 5 al 15 agosto a Locarno, il progetto Agora di USI e SUPSI Once Upon a Time in the Web propone un'esperienza educativa gratuita tra enigmi, archivi e memoria digitale. Il 13 luglio, al Long Lake Festival, un evento pubblico inaugurerà l'iniziativa.

La 14ª Giornata di Linguistica Svizzera, ospitata dall'USI, ha riunito circa settanta ricercatrici e ricercatori provenienti da tutto il Paese. Al centro dell'incontro le sfide della ricerca linguistica, il dialogo interdisciplinare e il futuro della disciplina.

L’edizione primaverile 2026 del corso Business Concept si è conclusa il 19 maggio con una competizione di pitch. In tre mesi, 43 partecipanti tra Lugano e Mendrisio hanno avuto l’opportunità di rafforzare le proprie competenze imprenditoriali sotto la guida di esperti.

Venerdì 28 agosto l'USI ospiterà l'Annual Workshop 2026 dell'Associazione svizzera per il diritto dell'energia (SELA), dedicato alle trasformazioni del diritto dell'energia tra sicurezza, resilienza e sostenibilità nel contesto svizzero ed europeo. Le iscrizioni sono aperte sino a venerdì 21 agosto.

Fino alla fine del 2026 la comunità USI può accedere in modalità trial a Consensus, un motore di ricerca accademico basato sull'intelligenza artificiale che supporta la ricerca e l'analisi della letteratura scientifica peer-reviewed.

Dopo mesi di trattative, il 10 giugno 2026 swissunviersites ha siglato il nuovo accordo trasformativo "read & publish" con Springer Nature per il periodo 2026-2029. In esso si combina l'accesso ai periodici (read) con la possibilità di pubblicare gratuitamente in Open access (publish).

Four winners of the Pritzker Architecture Prize have taught at the USI Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio. In an interview the prize's Executive Director, Manuela Lucá-Dazio, reflects on the significance of this achievement and on the Academy's international role in architectural education.

USI is taking part in the new inter-institutional workshop on demographic challenges organised by Città di Lugano, SUPSI and IBSA Foundation. The initiative aims to translate research on demographic change into concrete proposals for tackling issues such as birth rates, ageing and social inclusion.

A study led by Prof. Davide Robbiani of the Institute for Biomedical Research (IRB), affiliated with USI, with partners from Stanford, Zurich, Masaryk and Novi Sad, has identified human antibodies capable of providing protection against West Nile virus and related viruses.

Dr Serena Petrocchi has been appointed a member of the USI Ethics Committee. As a lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, she will assist the Committee in applying ethical principles, as well as in reviewing projects, publications and issues relating to scientific integrity.

The poet, essayist and USI professor Fabio Pusterla has been honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Alma Mater - Violani Landi Poetry Award, an accolade awarded by the Centre for Contemporary Poetry at the University of Bologna. The ceremony took place on 17 June in Bologna.

Istituto ricerche solari Aldo e Cele Daccò (IRSOL) has published its 2025 Annual Report. The document presents the main scientific results achieved over the year and offers an overview of the Institute's research, training, and outreach activities.

Less than a year after its foundation, the USI-EOC Institute for Translational Research has published its first annual report. IRT brings together 4 research divisions and aims to strengthen Ticino's biomedical cluster by promoting translational research and a shared strategy with IRB and IOR.

The report highlights the results and developments of 2025 across three pillars of activity: community, education, and incubation. These include the strengthening of entrepreneurial pathways for researchers and students, a record amount of funding raised by incubated startups, and the sixth exit.

From 9 to 26 July in Lugano and from 5 to 15 August in Locarno, the USI and SUPSI Agora project Once Upon a Time in the Web offers a free educational experience packed with puzzles, archives, and digital memory. On 13 July, a public event at the Long Lake Festival will launch the initiative.

The 14th Day of Swiss Linguistics, hosted by USI, brought together around seventy researchers from across the country. The encounter focused on the challenges of linguistic research, interdisciplinary dialogue, and the future of the discipline.

The Spring 2026 edition of the Business Concept course concluded on 19 May with a final pitch competition. Over three months, 43 participants in Lugano and Mendrisio had the chance to sharpen their entrepreneurial skills guided by expert trainers.

On Friday 28 August, USI will host the 2026 Annual Workshop of the Swiss Energy Law Association (SELA), focusing on the transformations in energy law amidst security, resilience, and sustainability within the Swiss and European contexts. Registration is open until Friday 21 August.
