The SNSF is involved in several European partnerships (e.g. CHIST-ERA, QuantERA). These initiatives allow researchers based in at least 3 different participating countries, including CH, to submit joint proposals. Evaluation is done centrally; funding nationally.

Budget cuts will not affect the EU partnership calls that are open right now.
The 25% cut will apply starting from 2026. Considering that, on average, only 4 projects per call can be funded, and that some may be discontinued, we encourage you to take advantage of the 2025 calls that are open now.

For joint research projects on restoration of ecosystem functioning, integrity and connectivity. Projects should be interdisciplinary and engage society and policy. The SNSF budget per CH-applicant is max. CHF 400K for 3 years.

For joint research projects that improve water security in the long term, addressing challenges related to water quality, contaminants and health – both human and environmental. The SNSF budget per CH-applicant is max. CHF 400K for 3 years.

For joint basic and applied research projects that tackle urban challenges towards a more sustainable economy. The call addresses the following topics: Circular Urban Economies, the 15-minute City and Positive Energy Districts. The SNSF budget per CH-applicant is max. CHF 400K for 3 years.

For joint basic research projects on quantum information and communication sciences and technologies. The call addresses the following topics: Quantum Phenomena and Resources and Applied Quantum Science. The SNSF budget per CH-applicant is max. CHF 400K for 3 years.
