| Why SAR matters Academic freedom and institutional autonomy are essential for quality higher education and internationally relevant research. Yet in many countries, scholars face serious threats because of what they research, teach, or express. Scholars at Risk protects threatened academics. |

| |
|---|
|
| Who can apply? Eligible SAR candidates are scholars who have passed the Scholars at Risk evaluation process, have not already had an SNSF-funded placement in Switzerland, and have secured a hosting arrangement at a Swiss institution that is a member of SAR Switzerland. |

|
| Funding and duration A grant amounts to CHF 75,000 for the first 12 months and CHF 25,000 for up to an additional 12 months. The grants are intended to be used by host institutions to fund either salaries or scholarships. The min duration of an SNSF-funded placement is 1 full year, which may require additional funding. |
